Shame and its Two Ugly Hands

Shame came knocking at my door,

One day,

When I was sleeping.

Shame came knocking with its

Two Ugly Hands.

One hand whispered:

“Feel the rock in your stomach.

You are better than that.”

The other shouted louder:

“You are worth nothing.

No one cares,

Yet everyone does.”

Shame came knocking at my door

One day

When I was painfully aware.

Its hands

Grabbed hold of me. My heart on my sleeve.

Shame knew me

And I

Knew it.

  1. This is beautiful in an acutely painful way. Thanks for sharing it with us.
